The main research fields of the faculty include organizational behavior, human resource management, corporate ethics and social responsibility, organization theory, etc.

In the past decade, the faculty members have undertaken over 30 projects of National Social Science Fund of China (SSFC) and National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), including one key SSFC project (Research on Comparison and Strategy Choice of Multi-mode Human Resource Management in Chinese Enterprises Driven by Innovation chaired by Professor Gu Qinxuan) and three key NSFC projects (Research on Organizational Culture & Organizational Creativity - Based on Organizational Dual Contextual Perspective chaired by Professor Gu Qinxuan; Diversified Management of New Generation Employees and Human Resource – A Multi-level Research Based on Inclusiveness chaired by Professor Tang Ningyu; Research on Leadership Behavior of Chinese Enterprises under Changing Environment chaired by Professor Jing Runtian), and over a dozen provincial and ministerial projects. Over 300 academic papers have been published in domestic and international journals, including Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Applied Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Human Resource Management, Journal of Management, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Organizational Behavior, Management World, Journal of Management Sciences in China, etc. Additionally, over 30 books have been published, through which the Department have established academic reputation and widespread social influence.

 

The Faculty has received teaching and research awards including 2 National Teaching Achievement Awards, 4 provincial & ministerial Teaching Achievement Awards, 2 National Outstanding Case Awards, 4 Humanities & Social Sciences Awards from the Ministry of Education in China, and 3 provincial & ministerial Humanities & Social Sciences Awards.

 

The faculty members are active in industry-academia-research cooperation and social services and have been awarded the "Commemorative Medal for Celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China" by the Central Committee of Communist Party of China, the State Council, and the Central Military Commission. They have become the backbone of international and domestic academic organizations, working as editorial board members and reviewers of professional academic journals at home and abroad. The department has hosted many scientific research and teaching seminars, established specialized research teams for human resource services, energy, and other industries. The faculty members are also highly experienced in enterprise consulting and coaching.


The Faculty of the Department actively work in the industrial research teams covering areas including: energy, human resources services, semiconductor, retail, cultural media, cultural tourism, securities law, intelligent connected automobile, intelligent manufacturing, etc.

The department has over 300 undergraduate graduates and nearly 100 doctoral graduates. The graduates mostly serve in middle and senior management positions in famous enterprises and institutions, scientific research and teaching positions in universities and research institutions at home and abroad, and partners in startup companies, etc.

A large number of graduates with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Human Resource Management are hired as senior managers of enterprises or senior human resource managers by well-known enterprises and institutions, such as Shanghai Tobacco Group, Shenergy Group, Shanghai Telecom, Baosteel Group, Shenwan Hongyuan Securities, Shanghai Pudong Development Bank, Dow Chemical, Flex International, etc. Some graduates work in the consulting industry in major- related positions, such as McKinsey, PwC, Accenture, Waston Wyatt, Mercer, Korn Ferry, etc. Some choose to pursue further education overseas.

Doctoral students have been maintaining close cooperation and exchanges with their foreign counterparts through the “go global and bring in” strategy. In recent years, we have been offering cotutelle doctoral programs and encouraging students’ participation in international academic conferences to enhance their academic literacy. Most of the graduates have taken up teaching positions in universities, including University of Science and Technology of China, Tianjin University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, East China University of Science and Technology, etc.
